Windows activation

I bought a used Dell Latitude E5430 laptop without an operating system assuming I wouldn't need the product key to install it. I installed the version of windows that originally came with it and retrieved the product key using some software but it said that a default key and can't be used to activate it. What can I do to install Windows and activate it like it originally came with this laptop?
