Black screen after boot or resuming from suspend (XPS 13 9350, Ubuntu 14.04 LTS)

After boot or resuming from suspend, I'm getting a black screen.  I can't do anything other than a hard restart which usually fixes the issue.

This issue happened with the stock version of the laptop Dell shipped me.  I've seen fixes on other forums, but not specific from the Dell XPS 13 perspective so I'm not sure which software updates I should be making that's compliant with Dell support.
