Sound doesn't work after upgrading 14.04 to 16.04

Running it from the live USB everything works perfectly.

- There is nothing listed under input

- Under output HDMI is listed and another "Built-in Audio Analog Stereo" See screenshot:http://d.pr/i/I9XX

- the sound card does list itself with `aplay -l` and `cat /proc/asound/cards` http://d.pr/i/1kd4A

Anyone had a similar issue and fixed it? This is my second 9350 but the first was purchased with windows and dual-booted, so it isn't the same. I'd really prefer not cleanly installing 16.04 (too much downtime for a work-machine for my tastes.)

Deleting ~/.config/pulse fixed the issue. Unfortunately, found that out after reinstalling the OS, so I'm missing all the dell drivers and packages, but it doesn't seem to have any negative effect.

It'd be nice for the sputnik team to release a list of their packages and what they do even if it's informal. :emotion-15:

Hi,

I had also problems with the sound when updating from 14.04 to 16.04 on XPS 13 (9350). Unfortunately, deleting ~/.config/pulse did not fix it.

In my case, the solution was to use the alsamixer and unmute the speakers by selecting the right option and pressing "M". I don't know why they were muted. A guide can be found on the Ubuntu "sound troubleshooting procedure" page (see step 7).

Kind regards,

Mike

Try adding this to the end of /etc/pulse/default.pa:

########################
set-default-sink alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo
set-default-source alsa_output.pci-0000_00_1f.3.analog-stereo.monitor

set-card-profile 0 output:analog-stereo+input:analog-stereo

Then do "pulseaudio -k". This worked for me on Ubuntu 18.04 and 18.10.
