Upgrade Dell XPS 9315 to Ubuntu 22.04 apt repositories

Hello! I am wondering if somebody has experience with upgrading the XPS 13 9315 to Ubuntu 22.04.

I recently did that and everything works fine except from the apt repos. When I run apt update I get the following warnings:

It seems like it cannot find the somerville-psyduck repo for jammy as well as oem in the cannonical archive.

What should I do?

Dell doesn't have a repository for 9315 and 22.04 yet. 9320 (tentacool) has official support for jammy.

Dell used intel IPU6 for the Webcam and it needs a proprietary kernel module, so this won't work with a vanilla install of 22.04. Everything else works out of the box.

Would not have bought Dell if I knew earlier.

Thanks for the explanation! That's quite unfortunate.

Cheese itself does not work for some reason, but the webcam works just fine in other apps like telegram or Skype.

You say that “everything works fine”. Did you check the webcam, e.g. using “cheese”? For me, it does not work after the dist-upgrade.

Thanks for the hint. I checked in Firefox. There, my webcam also works. In other places, like in the user settings (create avatar for login), it does not.

One more thing @Johannes11833: Does you laptop properly wake up when you sent it to standby closing the lid?

Only when using xorg as the display Server. When using Wayland I often get a blackscreen. I didn't originally discover this when writing my question. I also don't know how to fix the blackscreen when using Wayland.

Thanks again for solving my issues. (Strictly speaking working around them, but I fear, this is as good as it gets at the moment.)

There are some instructions at:  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1428961/dell-xps-13-webcam-not-recognized-under-ubuntu-22-04-1

That one could do just do the install from Ubuntu generic 22.04 and do:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:oem-solutions-group/intel-ipu6
$ sudo apt install libcamhal-ipu6ep0

Can anyone confirm this is still valid unde 22.04.1?

What is the reason that makes updating the Ubuntu distribution so urgent? The laptop comes with the 20.04 LTS which is supported 5 years. Everything works, why not just wait for an official support. Btw. other Linux Laptop vendors also do not promise to be always on top of the edge. Especially the MIPI-CSI connected cameras at an the Intel IPU are always a pain to get support for. Btw. most Intel based laptops are affected.

By now, I know that Intel IPU are a pain. In fact, I bought a supported device to be sure everything works. (My previous laptop did not allow to go into standby using Linux because of some BIOS bugs that were worked around using a Windows driver but were not fixed.)

For me, the reason to upgrade to 22.04 was that it is still easier to work around the (luckily few) compatibility issues then getting things to work with pre-installed outdated packages. I use some software that works out of the box using 22.04 but I failed installing the dependencies of other software on Ubuntu 20.04 as it had old versions of the same software installed.

This is all interesting. Do we know if Dell plan to produce drivers for 22.04? Is there a roadmap anywhere?
