Dimension 3100 Install Linux
Hi all,
I'm attempting to install Linux on my new Dimension 3100.
I've tried Kanotix, Mandriva 2005, and Ubuntu 5.10
None of these will get me anywhere near a set up screen.
The most legible thing I've had as from Kanotix which told me that it could not read the root fs.
Ubuntu gave me a load of messages like
uhci_hcd : System error, PCI Problems?
Anyone managed to successfully install a Linux distro?
Cheers

Thanks for the reply.
I can't get anywhere near a graphical installer.
I boot from the CD, it asks me which boot option to try and I've tried
linux nopci
still no graphical installer.
It always stops before any graphics are displayed on screen.
the computer currently has Windows XP Media Center installed and it's running fine.
Any suggestions?

Installation and use is OK using a PS/2 keyboard.

As far as the install problem, you can take a look at this post http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-88358.html
It doesn't offer any remedy, but the opening post describes this problem perfectly.
Any update to this problem would be greatly appreciated! TIA.

uhci_hcd : System error, PCI Problems?
When I tried to install the same message appeared.
Did anyone manage to install Linux?

Yeah hi i had linux installed and working and I went away for a couple weeks then I turned it on and it said Floppy drive diskette seek failure, strike f1 to continue f2 for setup utility.
i pressed f1 and it said boot device not available. Anyone got any tips?
