VSS - Volume Shadow Copy Service
This is the discussion page on Microsoft's Volume Shadow Copy Servcie - VSS. I pasted a picture representation on how VSS works, with a loosely written description of the steps. Please feel free to make suggestions or corrections.
The VSS framework has four pieces.
1. The Requestor makes a request to the Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
2. The VSS notifies the Microsoft application that a request has been made.
3. The application freezes the application.
4. VSS notifies the Requestor that the application has been frozen.
