1704FPt Flat panel flashes for a second

Hi, I have a 17" 1704 FPt screen purchased in 05 that won't stay on.  I turned it on today and it flashes on for less than a second then it goes to a black screen.  Everytime I try to turn it on or disconnect from power source and try to turn it on it does the same thing. Flash on for a second then dark screen.  I can vaguely see the page screen in the black screen.  Is it shot?  Is the backlight replaceable? Thx
