2007WFP - 1680x1050 not a listed resolution in display properties

From the looks of things, you actually installed older drivers. I recently installed new drivers for my card and it is like 84.21 or something close to that. I upgraded from 80 or something.

Where did you get your drivers from and do you still have the disk for your card?

You would probably want to download the .inf file and update the monitor driver. You can find that here at . Extract it to the default folder and then open up the Display Properties, go to Settings then click on the advanced button, click on the Monitor tab and click on properties, click on update driver. Choose that you want to specify the driver in a certain location then hit next, put a check on "Include this location in this search." and then browse to the directory that was created when you extracted it. It should be C:\Dell\Drivers\R113372\2007WFPb unless you changed it. Click next and it will install the driver for that monitor and let your system and video drivers know what resolutions the monitor supports.

If, that does not work, I would recommend removing the drivers all together by first booting into VGA Mode (press F8 at the very first of your boot process) and then downloading DriverCleaner Pro from http://www.drivercleaner.net/. Once downloaded and installed, run it and make sure you add all of the nVidia filters to use. once you do that reboot and then re-install the LATEST nVidia drivers again.

And if all else fails, I would recommend format and re-installing your OS. If that option was there before, plugging in the monitor is not going to remove it when you update the video driver.

I mixed up the order of my drivers in my original post. I was originally using 81.98 and 1680x1050 worked, then I upgraded to 84.21 and 1680x1050 disappeared. I then reverted back to 81.98 and 1680x1050 was still not available.

The drivers are directly from nvidia.com.

Well, not ANY resolution - just from the list of resolutions they make available to you. At least, you've never been able to define your own resolutions with any ATI drivers/cards I've ever used (I've used the most recent, but not the most recent cards). My only fallback with ATI cards for custom resolutions was PowerStrip (this was for a CRT - it handled the standard 2007WFP resolution just fine).

nVidia drivers, on the other hand, really DO let you define ANY resolution (within the limits of the card) - 1000x1000, for example, if you had any possible reason why THAT would be useful :).

FWIW, I'm using 1680x1050 with nVIDIA ForceWare v84.21 - no problems, but I installed the Dell driver too.

You should be able to uninstall the drivers from Add/Remove Programs, Device Manager or Display Properties.

I had a Mobility Radeon M6 on the laptop. Compaq said it cannot support 2007FWP's native resolution. So I installed the latest Omega Drivers. Worked fine. :D

Only install Omega Drivers if you can't get official drivers to run your Dell monitor.

My graphics card is an nvidia geforce 7800 GTX.

Well I worked around the issue and got 1680x1050 back. Here is what I did:

1. Open display properties
2. Goto Settings tab
3. Click on Advanced
4. Goto the nvidia tab (has the name of your card model)
5. Select "Screen Resolutions & Refresh Rates" from the sidebar menu
6. Under "Custom resolutions and refresh rates", click the Add button
7. Accept the legal terms to agree that if you blow up your monitor it's not nvidia's fault. :)
8. Enter the resolution, color quality, and refresh rate you want. Make sure your monitor actually supports the configuration you enter! If you're not sure, check the docs. In my case; 1680x1050 @ 60Hz, 32-bit color depth.
9. Click OK

You should now be able to choose 1680x1050 as a resolution.

Hope this is helpful to anyone else who runs into this.

Tried entering the custom resolution but it just gives me the: GeForce 7800 GTX The custom resolution cannot be added.
