2408 WFP with vertical purple lines - any way to repair it?

This is a 2408 which we've had for about 4 years now - so it's very definitely out of warranty. It's developed purple lines on the screen:

They disappear after the screen's been on for a while (after it's heated up?) but more keep appearing.... the image shows 3 but to start with there was just one. Is there anything I can do to get it repaired? It seems a shame to just send it for recycling, and it's also pretty expensive to replace.
