P2422HE to P2723D, daisy chain low resolution issue

Hi,

I have problem with daisy chaining two Dell monitors.

Latitude 5420 TB4/DP --> P2422HE USB-C to C cable --> P2422HE USB-C main monitor

P2422HE DP out --> DP to DP cable --> P2723D DP additional monitor

The problem is, the maximum resolution I can set on P2723D additional monitor is FHD. There's no WQHD resolution in this setup? WQHD resolution is available when P2723D is connected directly to the Latitude 5420 via HDMI cable.

I'm using only genuine cables from monitors boxes.

Any suggestions?

The P2422HE USB-C upstream port only provides 90W power delivery back to Laptop. In the current setup above, ALSO connect the provided external power adapter to the Latitude 5420. Then retest and post result.

An additional test would be to disconnect the P2422HE, get a USB-C to DP cable and test the P2723D directly from the Latitude 5420 TB4/DP port to verify that the P2723D DP in port can do 2560x1440 60Hz.

Hi prk,

We had the same issue, but with P2723DE and P2723D monitors. We had a very low resolution on the additional monitor.

After trying everything; from calling our IT department and Dell support, updating drivers to upgrading BIOS/UEFI on our laptops, the solution was quite simple:

  1. Do a factory reset on the main USB-C monitor, with additional monitor and your pc/laptop attached.
  2. After a couple of seconds, screens are back. Now you can select the proper resolution.

It's worth the try!
