U3415W, has anyone been able to enable 10 bit colors in Windows?

Just switched from an LG monitor where I could enable 10 bit color in the AMD Firepro settings. With the U3415W, there is no way to enable 10 bit color, even though both panels are advertised at 8 bit + FRC. Tried reinstalling the drivers to no avail.

The U3415W 8 bit + FRC can utilize 10 bit via the AMD FirePro and Nvidia Quadro video cards and those specific drivers. But it is all contingent on the video card driver and the applications used. There is nothing in the U3415W that would stop a video card driver from enabling 10 bit support. Our only advice is to contact AMD and ask if they have a beta driver that you can test. Or test earlier drivers one at a time to see if any offer it.

Thanks Chris, I'm going to test the Quadro K420 to see if I get a different result. I tried both current and beta drivers for the FirePro. It worked fine with an LG monitor.

The U3415W is reporting to be 8 bit through it's EDID code, I tried overriding it to report being 10 bit through the windows registry, a custom INF driver and the ATI FirePro EDID emulator but neither worked.

I don't think so either, but it's curious that the EDID is telling the graphics card that it's 8 bit. See the EDID below, position 21 "A5" means 8 bit. It should be B5 for 10 bit AFAIK.

I really doubt that the monitor hardware is faulty, but, you could try to get a monitor exchange through Technical Support, if you can prove to them a monitor fault. Then test the replacement before sending any monitor back to Dell. If the replacement monitor does not have the issue, keep it and send us the original monitor. If the replacement monitor has the same issue, I doubt that they both could be defective. Send the replacement monitor back to Dell. Look to the video card drivers as the culprit.

I got a new Quadro K420 card, and no change, I'm unable to load a new EDID through either the Nvidia Control Panel or through a monitor driver with modified edid.

I tested my LG monitor and the Nvidia driver automatically selects 10 bit colors, and I can change the EDID data without any problems.

Is the Dell U3415W unable to run 10 bit colors in windows? Could you run MonInfo on another panel to see if they all report 8 bit?  entechtaiwan.com/util/moninfo.shtm

Are all U3415W's unable to have their EDID data modified?

This is extremely frustrating, I'm a photographer who benefit from 10-bit colors and I've spent almost 10 hours working on this.

I was able to change the EDID after doing a factory reset of the monitor. Now it reports as being 10 bit, but I still can't select 10 bit mode in the Nvidia drivers. So I guess it simply can't work in 10 bit mode?

One more finding, the inability to change EDID is caused by enabling Displayport 1.2.
