Dell USB-3 docking station (D3100) video limitations?

I purchased my second Dell P2415Q monitor, a dual monitor stand and a docking station.  After I had it all set up and working, I noticed the resolution on the monitors was maxed out at 2048 x 1152.  Each monitor supports 3840 x 2160 resolution and the QHD+ video card in my XPS-13 supports 3200 x 1800.  After some research I discovered that page 3 of the docking station manual has a little chart that shows this is the best you can get with a dual display connected to the docking station via HDMI.  I'm bummed!  What causes this limitation?

I agree that the sales site should have clarified this manufacturer limitation. You should be able to set it up like this =

D3100 DP out --> DP to mDP cable --> #1 P2415Q mDP in (MST Primary, page 33 - 34) = 3840x2160 30Hz

D3100 HDMI out --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> #2 P2415Q HDMI in = 2560x1440 50Hz
