E173FP died =(
ive got a e173fp dell monitor and its been nothing but perfect for 3 odd years or whatever, well got home today and had left my pc on but i usually turn off the monitor. so i go to turn the monitor on but as ive done before i double clicked the power button(dunno if that has anything to do with my problem) but when i go to turn it on after, it turns on for less than a second the green light shows screen looks like its gonna power up then turns off, it repeated this about every 5 seconds. so i turned the pc off an on but nothing, unplugged vga and power, again no change. babbling on here but jus trying yo give all the information. i tried holding down the buttons for prelonged periods, the off, menu and "+" button have no effect but if i hold the "-" button down both the green and yellow lights seem to come on simultaniously an hold but the screen is off. when i plug in the monitor it goes into the on/off cylcle straight away without me having to turn it on or anything. well thats all ive got. i know its an old monitor but it was working fine i was jus wondering if any1 has any idea to what may have cause this problem. as im 99% sure it cannot be fixed without major repair work

I have an e173Fp Dell Monitor with a Dimension 2400 Desktop. Same problem screen goes black, and power button flashes intermittently. There is a monitor Test. Turn off PC and Monitor. Remove the blue cable from the back of the PC and then turn on the monitor only. A blue green yellow red and white test pattern then floats over the screen. If this doesn't happen it is definitely a problem with the monitor. My problem is slightly different the test pattern floated over the screen for a while then the screen went blank and the power button again started flashing. So I assume my problem is definitely the monitor. My fix; I gave the side of the monitor near the power button a slight bang with the palm of my hand and the monitor then worked again. Then it goes off again same problem, sometimes when I bang it the monitor works for an hour or so. It is nearly five years old, has worked perfectly up to date, so I guess it is time to buy a new one, but if anyone can figure out what the problem is I would be grateful for advice.

I'm having the same problem. Details @ en.community.dell.com/.../19459964.aspx
As bigkevin says, there's a test, which I did, but the monitor won't stay on but for the 1 second at a time-- but I can see that the test block is there, floating. So it's the monitor. Now what?
