E2414H, need help with connecting to my laptop

HI. I have a Dell E2414H monitor. I just got a new laptop that runs Windows 10. I can't get the monitor to connect to my laptop. I've got the VGA cable connected but the screen just goes into sleep mode. I've tried downloading the Dell driver for the monitor but that doesn't seem to be working. I guess the monitor might not be compatible with Windows 10, but I need to figure out a way to get it to work since I just bought it a few months ago. Help would be greatly appreciated!
