Error message "Cannot Display This Video Mode"

I am receiving the error message "Cannot Display This Video Mode" when running a game.  I have the Dell E173FP monitor.  I attempted to install new drivers but have not been successful.  The game works with an older monitor I had as a spare.  Any help?

i think you had a resolution set in your game that your new monitor doesn't support. the only thing i can think of that you could do is hook up the old monitor again..enter the game and set it to a resolution your monitor supports

I had exactly the same problem. The solution is on page four of general hardware problems as a reply to " Screen black won't do anything HELP!!!!!!!!". Hope this sorts it out for you.
