Full HD 1080p on Dell 1920x1200 display such as 2405FPW or 2005FPW
Dear sir,
As you know the HD top notch standard is
1080p :
1920 x 1080 resolution
If you try to send this resolution to a
Dell 2005 or
2405 FPW display it won't display correctly.
Reason is that
EDID is missing those resolution right ?
I have read the forums and find out that many
EDID questions are left unanswered.
However i do believe internet and the world community have enough skills to work out a solution without having you Dell Guys busy on support.
If you could just provide the timing and frequency that are needed to support
1920x1080 we could work out a solution for those monitors.
If you feel kind enough to provide an updated
EDID file for those displays supporting
the world Full HD standard
1080p please do so !
Otherwise please supply at least the timing and frequency so we can use
EDID software to add the world Full HD standard on our monitors !!!!
Please !!

Interesting question. I have sent it up the line to the engineers. But, know that even if you could edit the EDID, that would be voiding the warranty. Just be aware of that.

- Will it work if we dump the 2407 EDID and use the 1080p modeline for that EDID to modify the 2005 and 2405 EDID ?
* No idea. We have never done this.
- I have seen your display 2405 and 2005fpw have firmware, is there no firmware update planned to support the world standard 1080p?
* No.

* The 2005FPW cannot do anything above 1680 x 1050, EDID edited or not.
* The 2405FPW might take a 1920x1080 signal, but the display will be stretched slightly to fit the 1920x1200 screen. The 2407WFP had the same issue and we fixed it with a bios update, but only because the 2407WFP is still selling as new.
I have read the forums and find out that many EDID questions are left unanswered.
* Correct. This is by design and intent.
If you could just provide the timing and frequency that are needed to support 1920x1080 we could work out a solution for those monitors.
* I am not allowed to do this.
If you feel kind enough to provide an updated EDID file for those displays supporting the world Full HD standard 1080p please do so!
* PG/engineering said no.
Otherwise please supply at least the timing and frequency so we can use EDID software to add the world Full HD standard on our monitors!

I think many owners/buyers of 1920x1200 display are expecting their displays to support any LOWER resolution! Especially if that lower resolution is a WORLD standard right?

* I disagree. I think most consumers look at the specifications before they purchase the item and accept them:

Odd that companies are not big on adding features to a end-of-(sales)life piece of hardware.
Now back to reality.
I love my 2405. I knew going in it was 1920x1200 and didn't have HDCP support (very few LCD monitors did back when I bought mine). The newer models added support for HDCP, but sacrificed in other areas like input lag and LCD panel quality.
If you specifically want 1920x1080, look into a 2408 or 2409. A 20" couldn't do this anyway as it doesn't have enough physical pixels in the first place. The 1x1 ration offering (preventing scaling) would be nice, but when you bought the 2405 it wasn't a secret about the resolution capabilities.
Asking for information about how to program/tie into the EDID is getting close to asking a company to provide source code. Some do this (e.g. Red Hat), but most don't as it's protected by copyright and someone spent a lot of time making it.
