Help with Monitor?

I know I must have done something stupid.  I hooked my laptop up to the tv and tried to make the tv the primary monitor.  After hitting F8 to try and make that happen, my internet explorer and other programs became messed up.  Now when I open internet explorer, the view automatically minimizes so small you can't read and if I open up excel, the boxes and font grow to like ten times their size.  Anyone have any suggestions on what I did?
