Monitor Warranty when purchased from amazon.co.uk - shelf stack retailer?

Does amazon.co.uk fall into the shelf stack retailer category as detailed on the FAQ http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/t/19263699.aspx ?

We have two Dell U2312 23" IPS LED monitors bought from amazon.co.uk as including a 3 year warranty that I would like to check and activate. Who knows we may want to extend it in the future.

The useful FAQ on here notes that the service tag is only included with the larger monitors (27" or 30") - this has also been confirmed by a dell techical support monitor representative,  unfortunately to access warranty information for this monitor on the Dell website (http://www.dell.com/support/troubleshooting/uk/en/ukdhs1/Index?c=uk&s=dhs&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&t=warranty) I need a service tag.

I have been told by dell customer service to get the dell order number from Amazon, but from the monitor warranty FAQ on this forum http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3529/t/19263699.aspx, shelf stack retailers need a kind of dummy one generated.

Are amazon.co.uk a shelf-stack retailer for warranty purposes, who is correct about getting the warranty (the forum FAQ or the telephone support) and what do we actually need to do?

Further to this Amazon.co.uk have responded as follows:

Further to your email, I understand that Dell are requesting the Dell monitor order numbers so that they can assist you further.

I'm sorry but Amazon don't hold any of these details. In any case, such details would be included either on the product upon arrival or within any paperwork that arrived along side the item.

For Dell to be able to assist you further, the printable order summary should suffice as proof of purchase.

However, to confirm this for you, I'm going to ask our specialist team to look into this for you.

There's clearly an issue with the way the Dell warranty works for devices that do not come with a service tag. The Dell representative I spoke to indicated that Amazon would have bought the monitor from a reseller who bought it from Dell - given that's the supply chain it is pretty unlikely that the Dell order number would be held by Amazon (or indeed another retailer). Why on earth isn't the serial number enough information for Dell?

Are amazon.co.uk a shelf-stack retailer for warranty purposes, who is correct about getting the warranty (the forum FAQ or the telephone support) and what do we actually need to do to get this warranty?

Contact Dell Order Support for your country. The Order Support agent will need to submit a Fusion request to the CTS Retail OPS queue to get a Dell Order number attaching you to the monitor. They will need the following information to fill out the form -
Online Retail Store:
Purchase date from Online Retail Store:
[Your]
Email Address:
Name:
Shipping Address:
Phone Number:
Monitor Model:
Monitor 20 digit PPID number:
Note to Dell Order Support agent: Online Retail Dell monitor purchase. Please create a Dell order number tying this monitor to this customer.

They will have to sumbit two of these Fusion request, one for each monitor.

Thanks Chris. So Amazon are classed as a shelf stack retailer and won't have the Dell order number. I will proceed as per your instructions.

This does however rather suggest that the Dell order support people don't know the system as they insist on having the Dell order number before doing anything.

I guess this convoluted method of fake order numbers is a quirk of Dell originally being direct sellers of PCs, but switching to using device serial numbers or supplying service tags on everything, would make life much simpler for your customers.

Hi, I recently bought a Dell U2412M monitor from a UK online retailer. No warranty or support information was included in the (sealed) box. The monitor carries a 3yr warranty, which is one reason that I bought this monitor. Chris M's post above seems to answer the question about attaching the monitor to me.

My question now is how do I contact Dell Order Support in the UK?

I cannot find a phone number or any channel named 'Order Support'. Is Order Support part of Sales or Customer Care? Email and online options all seem to require a service tag, which of course, is not provided with a 24" monitor.

Help please. How do I contact order Support?

Thanks
