P2415Q, Apple, does not wake up after standby

Dear support,

I have two P2415Q and one of them sometimes wont wake up from standby (I do not have case when both at same time wont wake up).

If on of them dont wake up, then buttons on that monitor do not work too --- only way to get it work again is to disconnect and reconnect power cable. Switching display cables wont help. Restarting computer do not help --- monitor dont respond.

Problem started 2 weeks after use and it is going worst, it happends more often.

I have 2015 MacBook Pro 15" and both monitors are connected mDP -> DP (using cable which was included with monitor).

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, Dell does not test/validate most of our monitor models on Apple proprietary hardware, ports, and software. So this will be a best guess.

That MBP has two Thunderbolt/mDP out ports correct? If so, is this your setup?
MBP #1 mDP out --> Dell mDP to DP cable --> #1 P2415Q DP in (OSD- Display- MST Off = 4k2k 3840x2160 60Hz)
MBP #2 mDP out --> Dell mDP to DP cable --> #2 P2415Q DP in (OSD- Display- MST Off = 4k2k 3840x2160 60Hz)

If yes, then I wonder of the MBP is having issues generating the 4k2k 3840x2160 60Hz resolution leaving standby. To test this, enter the P2415Q OSD Menu (pages 30 and 33) and change both P2415Q's to =
MST Primary 4k2k 3840x2160 30Hz

Then retest standby. If both P2415Q's always wake up using this setting, then we know the fault lies with the MBP.

About setup, You are right.

Will try 30Hz for few days.

Thanks!

Also, some forums mention that this mDP->DP cable is not good enough?

I have seen some success from Apple users using the mDP to DP cable. Certainly worth giving it a shot.

I am using mDP to DP cables which came with monitors --- cables was included in monitor packaging.

Understood. Perhaps getting better cables might help. Ask the Apple users here which ones they prefer. How is the 30Hz testing? If they still fail, they should be tested on another computer to see if the issue follows the monitors. If it does, they should be exchanged.

30Hz testing is not possible because i found out that 30Hz its not usable --- mouse movement is very bad @30Hz.

And this problem does not happend every time and not that often with this monitor which I have right now, because the second one I already gave back to shop (warranty), so they can investigate this issue. But I noticed that this other monitor had different mDP->DP cable (different cable diameter and different connectors).

Remaining monitor did this freezing issue again only once in few days and I made short video to show it: https://youtu.be/rBxFplWvVk0.

So if monitor is connected, then Mac thinks that monitor is there but no picture. Connecting/disconnecting does not help. No response from any button on monitor (Normal behavior is that monitor shows "no signal from computer" when you press buttons)

Only thing helps is to disconnect power from monitor --- so its seems that monitor is freezing somehow.

I had a similar problem.

But what worked for me was:

on the monitor, go to the "menu", choose "others" then on the "DDC/CI" option, change to "Disable" instead of enable

hope it works for u guys too

Hi Chris,

I read that firmware revision A03 solves this wake up problem --- can you confirm that? (I have rev A01 at moment)
