P2720DC, M1 Mac mini, USB hub only works after replug

Hey Dell support and hi community,

My new P2720DC in connection with my M1 Mac mini shows a known issue. Maybe you've new suggestions for me?

P2720DC is connected via USB Type-C and everything works (which I am glad for) besides the built-in USB hub. Only when I plug in the USB Type-C cable again does the USB hub work. So technically it works.

I've read the Dell Monitor Apple FAQ, known threads like this P2720DC-MacBook-M1-USB-hub-not-working-on-reboot and this P2720DC-USB-A-port-not-working-with-Mac-Mini-M1 and have also read several P2720DC threads in the Apple Community Forum

Resetting the monitor (all cables off, pressing power button) didn't work for me.

Trying to install DDM didn't work neither, DDM wants a new firmware for the monitor, which is only available for Windows.

Seems to me like i should have known before, but before I consider returning the monitor (which would be a pity), I wanted to ask:

- will there be a firmware update for P2720DC for macOS? And could this be a solution?

- Would a U series monitor be more reliable when used with a M1 Mac mini, as Dell provides DDM and firmware updates for macOS for these series (like U2720Q or U2722DE)? Im thinking about getting one of these, even if more expensive.

- since we are now in 2022, do any of you have any new suggestions to solve this problem?

- Last question, perhaps to Apple rather than Dell: Will a new update for macOS possibly solve this problem? (but maybe you have a tip)

All suggestions are very welcome.

Many regards!

* At the top of this Monitors Forum board, open the Pinned post, "Dell monitor, Apple FAQ"
* Under, "DDM for macOS", it states what Dell monitors will be validated with DDM for macOS =

Supported Dell monitors =
The DDM software team has stated that there will not be a DDM for macOS written for older monitors released prior to the ones below. Also, if the Dell drivers page for your Dell monitor does not list Apple MAC OS, then you will never receive a macOS DDM.

Hi everyone,

my latest discovery concerning my problem: On the login screen, when I turn the monitor off and on again, the Monitor USB-ports are recognized and working. This is a slight improvement, because I dont have to un- and replug the USB-C-Cable. Obviously turning the Monitor on and off has the same effect..

I'm still looking for a permanent solution..

I agree, I recently purchased this monitor to find out that DDM is only available on the Ultra sharp and UP monitors. Hoping this is changing soon

Hi radiostarr,

I had the same problem as yours with my Dell U3421WE after having firmware update recently (from M2B104 to M2B105), on my side I think the problem is from the firmware and not from the DDM software just because the firmware M2B104 comes with the monitor does not have this problem.

You have to wait for the firmware update to fix it.
