U2412M, DVB-T2 set top box

Hello all,

Just bought a simple K2 DVB-T2 set top box from eBay that seems to be working fine on my cheap job monitor. I can´t get it to work on my Dell U2412M revision A05. It sometimes shows the boot up logo and than nothing. Only a message that "No DVI cable is connected". The DVB-T2 outputs HDMI 1.3 and I use a HDMI to DVI converter.

Would be greatful for input.

All the monitor can do is receive the signal by you choosing DVI in the Menu- Input Source. It is up to the source device DVB-T2 to send the signal. I would be testing a straight HDMI to DVI cable, no add on converters to a HDMI to HDMI cable or DVI to DVI cable.

Thank you for your reply!

So you think the adapter is the bad guy. That might be, I was suspecting something more complex like hdcp versions. The tv box + hdmi cable + adapter works fine on my job 16:9 fujitsu monitor.

Googling I found this thread about nintendo switch users having problems connecting to the same monitor after an update;

"My Dell U2412M worked correct with 3.0.0, at 1080p. But now its broken with 4.0 and 4.0.1. There is nothing in the options for automatic aspect ratio it pulls it from the device (switch)."

Yes, it appears that Nintendo broke it with their 4.0 release. Not fixed in release 4.0.1.

From same forum:

"I think Nintendo enabled preliminary HDCP support for the Netflix app (coming in Q1 2018 according to an industry insider*) and this causes all sorts of problems with older equipment."

Do you think this might be a possibilty, some kind of HDCP version problem? Since my setup (with adapter) works fine on a newer monitor.

Unknown. Dell never tested the DVB-T2 set top box. We know that the U2412M DVI-D is HDCP compatible. But using a HDMI to DVI conversion, no idea.

Could a new version of hdcp make the u2412m useless? And could a firmware update from Dell solve the problem?

It appears so.

No. Dell is not going to spend the time and resources to create a firmware update for an out of warranty six year old monitor. It is time to get a newer monitor.

So you wouldn´t recommend anyone to buy the u2412m new today?

Regardless of what a reseller like Amazon or Newegg may state, you cannot buy a "new never used" U2412M. There is no way that the U2412M sat in an unopened box for 6 years. They would all be used/refurbished. No, I would not advise anyone to purchase the U2412M. I would advise them to putting that money into a newer model monitor.

I suppose Europe is lagging compared to the states.

Here you can still buy it as before from the normal suppliers;

No idea who that reseller is but if they are saying that the U2412M is new, I would not trust them.

The link in my previous post is to a price comparison site in Sweden. Not trusting the computer stores on that long list you would have problem buying, or in your case selling, any of Dells products in Sweden.

Link to one of our major and most trusted computer store:

Notice on their site, they never state that the monitor is new. In fact, they show a release date of August 15, 2011. They also show "Compatible with Windows 7". So you know this is old product. The only way to be 100% sure that you are ordering a new, never used, current monitor is to order directly from our Dell Sweden site. Read this.

The only seller on your list of suppliers in Sweden, that is a consumer store, is Dustin, with "titanium status":

They are also selling this old monitor:
