I doubt that the monitor hardware is defective. Open the U2414H OSD (On Screen Display) Display Settings and make sure DisplayPort 1.2 is disabled.

* Turn the monitor off
* Turn the computer off
* Disconnect/reconnect ALL of the cables =
Computer Asus HD7750 DP out --> Dell U2414H DP to mDP cable --> U2414H mDP in
Computer USB port --> U2414H USB upstream cable --> U2414H USB upstream port
* Turn the monitor on
* Turn the computer on

DDM is not supported with DP 1.2 enabled. Why, no idea. The software manufacturer (entech) would have to tell us.

From the DDM release notes:

Troubleshooting
----------------------
If DDM is unable to detect and/or communicate with
a supported Dell monitor:
- make sure you have the correct and latest display
  driver from the graphics vendor (AMD, Intel, NVidia)
- check the monitor OSD to ensure DDC/CI is enabled
- remove any docking stations or cable extenders or
  converters between the monitor and the graphics port
- with first generation DP 1.2 monitors, it may be
  necessary to disable DP 1.2 using the monitor OSD

its almost 2019 and I got the same issue... my Acer monitor is working 100% fine, same graphics card, same drivers and same windows update... Dell either needs to hire me to reprogram their drivers or update it and send an email or something. I paid too much money for the 27" LED monitor, I am not interested in downgrading my Windows OS or any system drivers, because that's not the issue. the issue is DELL DRIVERS NEED AN UPDATE TO FIX THIS! meantime I'll just uninstall the Dell screen helper app to get rid of the annoying message. Even the smc usb ports on the monitor have a funny driver issue (they only work with legacy generic drivers for the hub, once you update, all ports stop working!) I promise to buy a Samsung monitor next time. Never had these cheap 'fong-kong' issues
