U2711 with ATI 6950, windows 7 Pro X64
Hi
I am unable to get 2560x1440 as an option. the maximum resolution windows will allow me to select is 1920x1080. There is no option for 2560x1440.
This is a replacement monitor from dell and is a refurbished unit.
Fresh install of windows with latest ATI drivers 11.2
Dual link DVI-D cable used.
Have been running 2x 2709W fine until now.
Any help as to what could be the problem would be much appreciated.

I would setup the U2711 by itself as the primary on the 6950. Remove the 2709ws. Reboot. Then, see what resolutions Windows offers. If you still do not see 2560x1440, it is a limitation of the video card driver or the video card itself.

It's been confirmed. This replacement, the 2nd refurbished unit that DELL sent out, after the first flickered like there is no tomorrow, has a fault that causes intermittent no display and also won't allow full native resolution if there is display.
The 3rd refurbished unit that DELL sent to me works fine first go without problems. While I am glad that the problem has finally been solved, I am not quite satisfied at the fact that DELL kept sending me obviously untested and faulty refurbs and it took DELL 3 tries to get it right. It has wasted many hours that I'll never get back. Sigh....
