U2715H + macbook pro GeForce 9600M, No full resolution 2560x1440 via HDMI

I can't get the full resolution (2560 x 1440) of my new screen (U2715H) with my MacBook Pro 17" 2009 (NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB) via an HDMI mini Display port cable.

I tried using the Mini display port to Display port that comes with the screen, but it's not working at all. With any other MacBookPro that I tried it works fine though.

So I can use my screen with an HDMI to mini Display port cable but only getting a maximum of 2048 resolution. I checked all the messages over here and can't find a solution.

With HDMI selected, the monitor display shows

Resolution: 2048x1152, 60Hz

Maximum: 2560x1440, 60Hz

And I found this on the Video card specifications page:

Display Support

Multi Monitor: Yes
Maximum Digital Resolution: 2560x1600
Maximum VGA Resolution: 2048x1536
Standard Display Connectors: HDTV
Two Dual Link DVI

How can I get the full resolution of my screen? Is it possible with my video card? Any help would be very much appreciated.

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.5), NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT 512 MB

The HDMI on the U2715H is HDMI version 1.4. Your video card and cable have to support HDMI 1.4 to get the 2560x1440 60hz resolution. Or go into your GPU settings and create a custom resolution at a lower Hz setting, 2560x1440 50 to 59Hz. No idea how to do this on the unsupported apple. Ask the apple guys.
