U2717D, Daisy Chain Blurry Image

Hi,

I've successfully daisy chained via DP 2 monitors together. It's currently setup as follows:

Laptop mDP -> mDP to DP cable -> U2717D DP input (DP 1.2 enabled and MST enabled)

U2717D DP output -> DP to DP cable -> Asus Monitor input (No settings I can change)

I'm able to change the resolution on both monitors, they all extend etc. etc.

My problem is with the Dell U2717D monitor, currently the image is very blurry.

The maximum resolution that Windows 10 can set is 2048 x 1080 (60hz), but I understand that the monitor supports upto 2560 x 1440 for MST - but that option is not available.

Sharpening the image in the settings doesn't really provide a good clear image.

The Asus monitor works perfectly and can scale to a crisp and clean 3840 x 2160 @ 60hz.

Is there any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong here to get a clearer image on the Dell Monitor?

Test the U2717D by itself on the laptop
* Turn the laptop and both monitors off
* Disconnect the DP to DP cable from the U2717D DP out port
* Leaving only the U2717D connected to the laptop via its mDP to DP cable, turn the U2717D on, then the laptop
* Use Windows 10 to set the U2717D resolution to 2560x1440 60Hz
* Open the U2717D Menu OSD (On Screen Display) and verify it shows 2560x1440 60Hz. At this point, if the image is clear, the U2717D is functional.

* Turn the laptop and U2717D off
* Reconnect the Asus to the U2717D DP out port via the DP to DP cable
* Turn both monitors on, then the laptop

Did Windows 10 keep the U2717D as the Primary monitor? Did it keep the 2560x1440 60Hz?

Does the Asus appear? At what resolution?

Thanks Chris.

Both Asus and Dell monitors work perfectly when connected directly. I've tried what you said, but when I reconnected the Asus monitor the Dell monitor resolution was reduced to 2048 x 1080.

The ASUS keeps it's resolution at 3840 x 2160. Even if I drop the resolution the Dell monitor doesn't change and there is no new resolution option.

The slight 'blurriness' is probably due to the resolution of the Dell, which I can probably live with, it would be nice to have both monitors the same resolution (dropping the ASUS down to 2560 x 1440) and crisp clean image.

The laptop has 2 x Nvidia 880M Graphics card in SLi Mode, if that makes a different.

The fact that both look good when connecting by themselves, points to the laptop as the culprit when trying to use both at the same time. I would try to test both monitors on a desktop computer (or other laptop) to verify if they can function at their optimal resolutions together, or to show that the issue follows the monitors.
