U2717D, connect to Nvidia GeForce GT 520

My computer has a Nvidia GeForce GT 520 graphics card installed.  I just purchased a Dell UltraSharp U2717D 27" monitor. The monitors Native Resolution is QHD 2560x1440 60Hz.

The GeForce GT 520 has video out ports for HDMI and DVI-I DL. The U2717D has video in ports for HDMI, DP, and mDP.

I currently have it going from HDMI to HDMI. 1920x1080 60Hz is the best resolution I can get. I've read that this is the best the card is able to do with HDMI output. To get 2560x1440 60Hz, I have to use the DVI-I DL port.

What cable is better: DVI-I DL to HDMI or DVI-I DL to DP?  Or am I going to have to buy a new graphics card?

I use this computer mostly for Adobe Photoshop.

Your U2717D Service Tag number is on the back #5 label. Click my DELL-Username and send it to me via a Private Message.

Video card HDMI out or DVI to monitor DP/mDP is not possible via a straight conversion cable.

Video card HDMI out --> HDMI to HDMI cable --> HDMI in to DP out converter --> U2717D DP to mDP cable --> U2717D mDP in

Video card DVI out --> DVI to mDP converter --> U2717D mDP to DP cable --> U2717D DP in

The U2717D HDMI 1.4a in port should be able to do 2560x1440 60Hz. So if when connecting via an HDMI to HDMI cable you are only getting 1920x1080 60Hz, that does point to the need for a newer video card. I would find one with DP out port or mDP out port.
