U2719D, AE515M, no sound

I am in the process of setting up my new Dell XPS tower, U2719D monitor, and AE515M sound bar.  I've connected the monitor's USB upstream port to the tower with the enclosed USB cable and the sound bar's USB cable to one of the monitor's downstream ports.  The sound bar's power light is on, but I can get no sound to play no matter whether I'm testing the speakers with the OS device settings or by playing some music from the HDD through a software music player.  Volume is up on high.  The only way I've been able to hear any sounds is to connect the monitor's audio line-out port with the sound bar's aux in port, but that not only isn't the way this should work (according to the instructions included), but plugging into that aux-in port disables the microphone on the sound bar.  Can anyone help?

XPS 8940 =
four rear blue USB 3.1 ports
three front USB 3.1 ports
two rear black USB 2.0 ports

* XPS 8940 GeForce RTX RTX 3070 DP out port -- > U2719D DP to DP cable --> U2719D DP in port
* XPS 8940 rear blue USB 3.1 port --> U2719D USB 3.0 upstream cable --> U2719D USB upstream port

* Test the AE515M and its shorter cable on all four of the U2719D USB downstream ports
* Repeat the test above after moving the U2719D USB 3.0 upstream cable to one of the other XPS 8940 rear blue USB 3.1 ports. Test all four
* Repeat the test above after moving the U2719D USB 3.0 upstream cable to one of the three front USB 3.1 ports. Test all three

Thanks

Yes, thanks.  I've done both.  I've also had Dell Tech Support reply with several things to try, but none have worked so far

OK, thanks.  A bit frustrating, but not crucial at this point as I continue to set up other things on my new computer.  I look forward to PMs from you in the future.

@Cowboy11044  This shouldn't make a difference, but just to remove one variable during testing, have you tried connecting the soundbar's USB cable directly to a port on your system?  And are you actually setting the soundbar audio output device as your default audio device in Windows?
