U2913WM, USB 3.0 hub detected as USB 2.0?

I just connected the USB upstream port on my U2913WM monitor to a USB 3.0 port on my PC using a brand new USB 3.0 cable. The USB hub in the monitor is identified in Windows Device Manager as "Renesas Electronics USB 2.0 Hub." How can that be possible when it's a USB 3.0 hub? I've installed the latest Renesas USB 3.0 driver (version 2.1.39.0), but it made no difference. My operating system is Windows 7 64-bit.

I have version 3.0.8.0 installed. Did you right click the USB 3.0 listings in the Device Manager, click Update Driver Software, click Search automatically..." ? Have you updated the computer chipset drivers?

Yes, I tried searching automatically for a more recent driver.

Can you provide a link to the version 3.0.8.0 driver?

See if this will install. I know it states Aurora-R4 but try it anyway. It is the latest version 3.0.23.0 I can find. I found it by searching here.

Thanks, I tried that but it said "the best driver software for your device is already installed."

The USB hub in the monitor is identified in Windows device manager as 'Renesas Electronics USB 2.0 Hub.'

The USB host controller in my PC is identified as 'Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller.'

What specific computer model? Can you do a real time data transfer speed test to an external hard drive from the computer USB 3.0 port, then the monitor USB ports?

The computer is one I assembled myself.

I tested the USB 3.0 data transfer speed from the computer and got approximately 100 MB/s. When I plugged my USB 3.0 hard drive into the monitor, Windows said there was a problem installing the driver (I wonder if the USB ports on the monitor don't supply sufficient power for a hard drive that's powered off the USB port?). I tried all four USB ports on the monitor. I plugged a USB 2.0 flash drive into the monitor without any issues.

The monitor USB downstream ports only provide a maximum of 4.5w. Check the drive manufacturer site to see if it needs more wattage.

I tested it on my work computer, which has an Intel USB 3.0 host controller and the Dell monitor USB hub was identified as 'Generic SuperSpeed USB Hub.' At least that means it's identified as a USB 3.0 hub and not USB 2.0. What USB chipset does the Dell monitor actually contain? Dell doesn't offer a USB driver for this monitor on the downloads page.

See if this one will install and change the setting from Generic to Realtek.
