display settings-unable to change

I recently reinstalled window98 2nd addition. I reinstalled video driver..Device manger shows my monitor-p990 dell. I cannot get more than 16 color and i cannot use the slide to increase the pixel sizes,I would appreciate any help.

have you tried restarting the computer since you installed the video driver?, also, are u still seeing an excalamtion point or question mark related to the video/graphics adapter in device manager?

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

If there is a chipset driver for your system you will need to first install it into the system prior to installing any video card drivers.

Thank you for your kindness in responding to my call for help. Yes I have restarted my computer several times since my reinstallations..The only question mark is under other devices/pci communication device and the dell technition said it was for my mouse which is working So we left that alone.(we did try using the mouse floppy but it didn't work!)

I have a dell resource cd with the drivers . Would a chip set be on this? I am not aware  of a chip set..Do I dare put in the resource cd again?? Would I screw up the  voodoo driver already installed from the dell download site?

what type of dimensin system do u have? perhaps i can post the link for the reinstall guide for the chipset using the resource cd

The chipset drivers would be on the resource cd. What is the type of system you have?

hey, no problem at all. when i checked the website though there's no reinstall guide for the chipset but a download from the web instead of installing it through the resource cd, here's the link:

Hard Drive Installation (via WinZip) with HTML Pop-Up Window for
1138DOS.EXE

Download
1. Click Download Now, to download the file.
2. At the Export Compliance Disclaimer window, click Yes, I Accept
this Agreement.
3. When the File Download window appears, click Save this program to
disk (Windows XP users, click Save) and click OK. The Save In: window
appears.
4. From the Save In: field, click the down arrow then click to
select Desktop and click Save. The file will download to your desktop.
5. If the Download Complete window appears, click Close. The file
name icon appears on your desktop.

Install
1. Double-click the new icon on the desktop labeled 1138DOS.EXE.
The Self-Extractor window appears.
2. Click OK or Continue.
The Self-Extracting Driver Installation window appears and prompts to
extract files to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R20175.
3. Leave all of the default settings and click Unzip or OK. If the
directory doesn't exist, you'll be prompted to create one. Click Yes. A
Self Extractor window appears and indicates C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R20175 files were
extracted.
4. Click OK.
Follow the on-screen installation instructions in the window.

HTML Pop-Up With Install Now Button
1. The Dell Software Installation Documentation window appears.
2. Click the Install Now button. A File Download window appears.
3. Click Run this program from its current location and click OK.
The Security Warning window appears.
4. Click Yes. The InstallShield Wizard window appears.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

I gave dell telephone tech  help one more call and they said the chip set is on the win98 cd and that i didn't need to reinstall it. they helped reinstall the video driver again and whaala! it worked.

so I am up and running again!!! thank you everyone!!!!thank you
