7.5.4.6 crashes, service stops

Installed the latest hotfixes, as we were getting occasional media database lagging issue, and other minor issues, and it went fine on backup server and 3 storage nodes.   on 4th storage node, it installs, but service stops after starting, and get this in event viewer - any ideas??

Hi David,

Have you tried installing another version to see if that does the same?  There was a similiar issue listed here:

http://solutions.emc.com/EMCSolutionView.asp?id=esg120834&usertype=C

but this should be fixed in the version of the software you have.   Try installing another version in order to be sure that there's nothing wrong with the package you have and if the issue persists, you'll need to open a case with support to look into why it's failing.

Bobby, thanks for the heads up on that known issue.     I installed the package on 3 other machines, and it worked fine.   I went ahead and opened a case with EMC, and the tech suggested that there was a peer information issue (although messages were over a month old), with our test 7.6.2 server.   I went ahead and removed that machine from our servers file (even though  no backups were actually going to that machine in recent time frame), leaving just our normal backup server in the servers file.

Once I did that, the networker service started up, and stayed up.   I was able to run backups through it.

Not really clear what the solution was.   I can't imagine that removing one server from the servers file fixed the problem..   I would like to know for sure, but at least my backups are working at this time.

Inetersting that servers file fixed the issue.  I had an issue with 7.5.4.0 or 4.1 (or something before 7.5.3.5) where I traced that server and storage nodes were coming up very slow as nsrexecd tried to establish RPC connection to nsrd for each server listed in servers.  As I have proxy backups that means I have loads of definitions there and this startup would take hours (and I mean hours!).  Same was truth for either some version of 7.6.0.x or 7.6.1.x. Since we start storage nodes before server, it was obvious loop.  I wonder if some sort of similar code defect ended up in your version which at the end drives dll lib crazy...
