Default Username & Password for NMC

Hi All,

I have installed new Networker 7.1 with SP1. When i try to use NMC, it doesnt accept the default usename and password (administrator & administrator).

If anyone has got the correct logon authentication, please help me....

The correct login is administrator & administrator only. IF you have reinstalled using an older NMC database then it could be what some one has set before but you can reset that as well.

NMC uses port 2638 form the NMC server, check if it is available for use. Sybase back-end in NMC needs it so if any other application is using Sybase, you need to remove that one.

It is a fresh Installation. And moreover, it uses the port number 9000.

Is there any other possiblities to recover....

Discussion about ports has nothing to do with problem. If this is new install then l/p is administrator. If this was update then it is what it was before (as same database would be used unless you said to override it). If you wish to reset password you can do that - instructions are in manual.

I know port 9000 is used to access the application but the database at the back-end which holds the logins & other reporting data uses port 2638.

Hi,

I tried resetting it... and restarted the service too...

But still it doesnt work...

Any clue....

Install the NMCcomponent on another machine and see if it works...which it should.

Did you get the chance to check on ports?

NMC does not come with NetWorker 7.1 with SP1. It first shipped with NetWorker at version 7.3. What version of NMC are you using?. Ensure caplocks is not on. Did you try resetting the password yet. You can also shutdown NMC, rename the directory the database is in, re-install NMC which will create a new database, then try logging in. If that helps and nothing else has then you can use this new database to start over, though all previous reports, host and user setups will be lost. You can return to old database by shutting down NMC, renaming new database directory, renaming old database back to original name and restart NMC.

NMC did come before, but as independent product.

You can can reset the password as mentioned in admin guide (the only trick is you need to restart box), In case you really really need it badly and nothing helps then support may try to do it via iAnywhere tools.

Hi Daniel,

The version is 7.1 with SP1. How do we resolve this issue...? Should i upgrade to 7.3...?

NW version has nothing to do with NMC in your case. 7.1SP1 (7.1.1) did not come with NMC bundled as versions in 7.3.x and 7.4.x. Are you sure you do not have 7..4SP1 instead?

Hi Mohideen,

Try the below steps.

Reseting the Administrator Password to the Default on Windows Systems

1. From the Start menu, go to Control Panel>System and set the GST_RESET_PW variable in the Environment Variables dialog box to a value of 1.
2. Reboot the system.
When the GST Service starts, the password resets.
3. Log in to the Console server as administrator, with the default password of administrator.
4. The password can now be set to a secure password once again.
5. Return to the Environment Variables dialog box and delete the GST_RESET_PW variable.
6. Reboot the system.
7. Log in to the Console server as administrator by using the secure password.

Reseting the Administrator password to the default on Solaris and Linux systems

1. Set GST_RESET_PW to a non-null value:
set GST_RESET_PW
2. Stop and restart the gst service with a reboot, or enter:
/etc/init.d/gst stop
/etc/init.d/gst start
The password resets.
3. Log in to the Console server as administrator, with the password of administrator.
4. The password can now be set to a secure password once again.
5. Set GST_RESET_PW back to null:
set GST_RESET_PW (press Enter, without assigning a value)
6. Stop and restart the gst service:
/etc/init.d/gst start
7. Log in as administrator by using the secure password.

Please also make sure not have Java newer than 1.6 update 26 installed on yout PC.

Newer version may also cause such problems.

Please check for the latest customer ETA documentation regarding the dependencies of NW release and Java.

The instructions on how to do this are in the Administration Guide, page 412.  Let us know if it doesn't work.
