Exchange Server 2010 backups with the NMM

I'm in the process of configuring Exchange Server 2010 backups with Networker and it wasn't clear from the NMM documentation whether or not it could recover individual emails from a backedup mailbox database.

If it can, is this part of the same license that the general Exchange backup is part of?

Are there any special changes that need to be made to configuration to make this work?

Thanks,

David

Hi David,

You can perform granular recovery of Mailbox, folder, or e-mail using the RDB feature in Exchange 2010 (No additional license required), But before doing that ensure that the following requirements have been taken care of before performing RDB item-level browsing:

1-  At least one public folder database is created in that Exchange organization.

2-  IPv6 is disabled in the Exchange machine, where RDB item-level browsing is performed. Disable IPv6 in the registry setting. Include the registry key and value to disable IPv6.

3-  Exchange Server 2010 permissions for RDB Mailboxes browsing are provided. To provide the permissions, perform the following steps:

     a. On the Microsoft Exchange Server, select the Start > All Programs > Exchange Management Shell.

     b. Enable  Send-As  and Receive-As permission.

     For example:

     get-ExchangeServer | Add-AdPermission -user -extendedrights Receive-As, Send-As

          where:

               –   is the server where the RDB Mailbox is located.

               – is the name of the user being granted permissions.

4-  MAPI/CDO 1.2.1 Kit installed.

5-  Ensure that you have Exchange 2010 SP1 Rollup 2 at least installed when performing Recovery Database (RDB) granular or item-level recovery on any Exchange Mailbox server.

6-  Also make sure that you have the latest build of NMM 2.3 that include all the hotfixes up to date ( Build 93)

7- Run the NMM config checker to check your environment and Exchange system for any other concerns.

After checking all the previous steps, you will be able to recover a Mailbox, folder, or even an email, The steps has been provided before in the following Powerlink Solution:

Hope this helps you.

Thanks,

In your case I would suggest http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/exchange_server.html backup and restore crashed exchange folders, messages and rest data are damaged by power shortages or surges, physical damage and incorrect user's actions.
