NMM 2.3 Exchange 2010 unable recover Public Folders database

Hello all,

situation :

2 x Exchange 2010 SP1 server in non DAG envinronment. On both Echange servers are PF databases. Backup with NMM 2.3 goes well. Configuration is the same on both Exchange servers. EMC Config checker without errors. When I run NMM 2.3 GUI I am able to recover PF database on first server but on second PF database is "greyed out" and Im not able to check it for recover .See attached file

Does anybody know what is wrong ?

Thx

Have you tried changing the browse time to the time of the backup of that PF database? Is the PF database within the browse period?

Hi Lefa,

2 points we have to be sure about.

1.- Is there any DB associated to that secondary PF?

2.- If so, is that DB mounted?

3.- If so, in which node is that DB active?

4.- Have you tried the restore from a PIT where you have backup of that secondary PF, and run the restore from the node where the associated DB is active?

5.- Are you sure you have valid backup of that secondary PF?

Turned out to be 5 points, but all of them valid

Thank you.

Hi Carlos,

thx for response

1. Yes

2. Every MD and PF databases are mounted state

3. There is no exchange cluster (DAG) configuration, only two standart 2010 Server in two site, insite one Exchange Organization. Both of them has one public folder databases. Public folder does not have database portability features, so it can be restore only  to "home" server, if I know

4. I dont know if I undertand clearly, but If I try to restore PF database hosted on server B to server A public folder are greyed out to, cause PF does not have db portability

5. Yes I am sure

Hi Lefa,

Just to let you know, PF cannot be restored into RDB.

Having this said, can you please let me know the procedure you are carrying out, step by step?

Have you assigned the correct permissions between Exchange servers, such as users and management of the PF themselves?

Thank you.

Carlos.

Hi Lefa,

Would you please upgrade your NMM version to the latest one, which is NMM 2.3 build 109, as there are some hotfixes has been included in the new build that may solve your issue. You can download that build from thw following FTP link:

ftp://ftp.legato.com/pub/NetWorker/NMM/Cumulative_Hotfixes/2.3/nmm23_win_x64.zip

Waiting your updates after the upgrade.

Thanks,

Ahmed,

The download at that FTP site still seems to be 2.3 Build 93. Is anyone else seeing this as well? The release notes advertise that the files are Build 109, but when you extract and run setup, it clearly says 2.3.93. Config Checker confirms that I've installed 2.3 Build 93 as well.

Hi Michael,

This is the link for NMM 2.3 Build 109:

ftp://ftp.legato.com/pub/NetWorker/NMM/Cumulative_Hotfixes/2.3/nmm23_win_x64.zip

Remember to uninstall previous version and install this one.

Thank you.

Thanks CarlosRojas,

That did the trick. I assumed that running the installer would simply update the existing installation to build 109, but that was not the case. Once I uninstalled Build 93 and ran the installer again, it registered as Build 109 and installation of updated version completed.

Hi Chris,

Is this stand alone or DAG environment?

Are you selecting Database Recover or RDB Database Recover?

Please note that:

1.- PF can only be restored from the same server where the DB resides.

2.- RDB restore is not supported for PF.

Thank you.

Hi everyone

I am experiencing exactly the same problem, in NMM-GUI the PublicFolder-DB is greyed out and therefore I'm not able to recover - but we are already using Build 109. Backups are running fine.

- NetWorker Server Version 7.6.3.3.Build.870

- Client Version 7.6.3.3.Build.870, NMM 2.3.0.109 (verified)

- Exchange 2010 SP2 Rollup 4 v2 (14.02.0318.004)

- all Windows Server 2008 R2

What can I do, any suggestions? Any help is appreciated.

Thank you very much

Chris

Hi Carlos

Yes, it is a DAG-Environment. I am selecting Database recover. I can see the PF-DB, but I am not able to select it because its greyed out. See the attached screenshot.

Hi Chris,

Are you connected to the server that hosts the PF?

Let's say that you have PN1 and PN2, and PN2 is hosting the PF (remember that PF are not replicated), so in this case, if you open NMM GUI from PN1 you won't be able to restore, and PF will always be displayed as you showed in the picture.

Thank you.

Carlos.
