NMM 2.4.0.383 HyperV Granular Restore

Hi folks,

I have installed NMM version 2.4.0.383 with feature Granular Level Recovery in the Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with Hyper V.

I have client backup level full with following configuration:
APPLICATIONS:\Microsoft Hyper-V\Initial Store
APPLICATIONS:\Microsoft Hyper-V\my_client_name

When I go to do granular restore received the message:
SSID 3132501497 is not GLR compatible. Error: Device type 'LTO Ultrium-3' for SSID 3132501497 is not GLR compatible.

Could you help me?

Thanks,

Alessandro.

There are a few limitations for Hyper-V GLR. Please refer to NetWorker Module 2.4 SP1 for Microsoft Applications Application Guide Page 274 "Granular level recovery".

I have NetWorker Server version 7.6.5.2.Build.1187.

NetWorker Module 2.4 SP1 need minimum 8.0.1 Networker Client.

Can I install 8.0.1 Networker Client working with NetWorker Server version 7.6.5.2.Build.1187?

Thanks,

Alessandro.

NMM 2.4 SP1 requires NW Server 7.6.2 or later, 8.0 or later; NW Client 8.0 SP1 or 8.0 SP2.

Yes, NW Client 8.0.x can work with NW Server 7.6.x.They are compatible.

Hi,

I installed networker client version 8.0.2 with NMM version 2.4.1.92.

I did backup full again.

However I can not do restore granular.

Hi Alessandro,

The problem is not related to your NW or NMM version but to the backup device.

GLR is supported only on Data Domain or AFTD devices (could be also AFTD on Data domain), but it's not compatible with tape devices.

As a test, and if you have enough storage in the NW server itself, create an AFTD on the NW server, and run a full backup. Then try to perform the GLR from the backup saved on the AFTD and that should work fine.

Thank you,

Carlos

Hi Carlos,

I did what you suggested and it worked.

As I do not have space in the Networker server, I used CIFS-mounted AFTD on Windows servers and storage nodes.

Thank you very much.

Alessandro.
