Networker 9- check licencing

Hi there,

I have a customer that has Networker with capacity licencing and wants to know how close they are to their entitlement. The 'Licence Conformity Check' shows zero and nsrlic does't show any useful information.

What should I do? It can't be that hard can it?

Thanks,

Ed

Ask support for collecting script and have them place into midtrend - that will give you aprox picture.  I believe it is 9.2 which gets a bit closer to reality, but still it is not 100% correct science.

Seams a bit odd in this day and age to not be able to easily tell how much of your licence you have consumed.

Thanks anyway!

As ble mentions, please register with Mitrends to download and use their tools to analyze your NetWorker server environment. https://mitrend.com/

I downloaded and took a look at their windows script used to gather NetWorker statistics.  It runs a number of nsradmin and mminfo commands... which makes sense if you want to determine how much capacity you are using.

When modifying this script, update the following line:

     rem By default, collects all backup images. Uncomment and edit the following line to only collect backups since a particular date

     TIMECONSTRAINT=-t 01/01/2011

The time constraint should be 60 from the day you run the query (exception is synthetic full backups - see below).  This is because source capacity licensing:

     Source capacity is measured as the total capacity of data that is protected by the NetWorker software over a two-month period (60 days). This is irrespective of where the data is backed up, for example, to a tape, disk, VTL, Avamar Data Store, or Data Domain system:

    • For pre-deduplicated data, the quantity of data is included in the calculation.
    • For synthetic full backups, where the combination of infrequent full backups is supplemented with regularly scheduled incremental backups, total capacity is measured as the total capacity of the most recent full backup, even if that backup is older than 60 days.

See the following document for more information on capacity based licensing.
