Networker backup of a LUN on a Dell

Hi,

I run Networker V 8.1.1.9 on a Windows 2008-R2 server. I have a F: drive on my Networker server which is physically a LUN on a Dell storage MD3860f.

I now want to backup that F: drive with my Networker server for whom it is a local drive.

I get the following error:

The shadow  copy provider had an error VSS 0x80042306

VSS failed to process the snapshot... object was not in correct state VSS 0x80042301

Do I have to setup snapshotting on the Dell and first generate an image ? If so, which tape of snapshotting ?

Please advise how to proceed ...

Rgds,
Johan

Hi Johan,

Maybe ths could be a problem with the HW provider, so please run the following command on the NW server:

vssadmin list providers

Also check that the writers are OK, by running the following command:

vssadmin list writers

Thank you,

Carlos

It is using VSS to create snapshot and backup from it.  For some reason it fails.  Do you know if you use DELL VSS hardware writer?  If yes, there is a way to revert to MS standard one as well.  But you should first check status of writers with vssadmin.
