Networker v8.2 vba dr
Hi all,
i'm looking for info about vba (virtual backup appliance) disaster recovery.
For example (scenario) :
site prod :
1 networker server windows 2008 R2 with nw8.2: nsrProd
1 vba (0.5TB) : vbaProd
1 DD with 1 DDdevice for vba backup action and 1 DDdevice for FS/Bootstrap/index backup.
1 VCenter : VCenterProd
site DR :
1 DD with 1 DDdevice for controlled cloned of vba backup action (configured for the nw prod backup server)
1 windows 2008 R2 as Networker server for DR from bootstrap
1 VCenter : VCenterDR
First step :
Nw backup server DR procedure --> I'll have a NW server called nsrProd on DR site.
This NWserver will see all DDdevice (backup and clone)
I'll umount and destroy the backup DDdevice,in order to have only cloned DDdevice available
Second step :
I'd like to be able to recover all my VM backups saved with my vbaProd.
Follows what i'd do :
1) deploy a vba (0.5TB) on VCenterDR : vbaProd
2) configure this new vbaProd as a new one
3) From NMC: recover vba from CheckPoint
4) Change Network configuration (reboot vba)
5) Re-registering vba to Vcenter/Networker
6) Finish
Has someone already done ? May you give me some guide-lines?
Thx in advance,
-Nicola

Didn't do it, but in theory from what I've reading - that should do it. I don't think you need to destroy source device - just unmount it and make it disabled. Also, you may have some license messages depending on your licensing model used, but for DR you can ignore those.

Thank you
my doubts are:
vba IP
VCenter hostname
vba original domain name
I don't know what will happen when i'll do a recover from vba checkpoint with different network settings from the original

Me neither... but your DR setup is it supposed to be failover to the same name or different name?

we can suppose a DR server with same name. However the DR of bck server is not the problem. I'd like know the procedure for recover VBA (and its backups) in another VCenter/Network/Domain associated with a new nw server with same name of the original.
thx

I am a few years too late but did you find the vba dr procedure? For 8.2?

Please refer to p 113 of the "NetWorker 8.2 SP1 and later VMware Integration Guide" for DR scenarios with VBA
Link: https://support.emc.com/docu57703_NetWorker-8.2-SP1-and-later-VMware-Integration-Guide.pdf?language=en_US
Hope this helps.

I have read that document about 5 times now. It is really not very specific
