Recover of Windows2003 system event files.

Hello,

we are working with NetWorker 7.4.4 and to do backup of Windows2003 servers we are using VSS; it is possible to recover individual system event files? At Windows2000 servers the backup process don´t use VSS option and then we can recover the event files, but when the VSS option is used, I don´t know if it is possible to do this recover.

Thanks.

Hi Martin

I am happy to be told differently but I don't think it is possible to restore indivdual event files in your configuration.

In the past what I have had to do get event files back is restore the system states back to another server built especially for this purpose.

Martin,

Pete is correct. VSS does not support anythign more granular than the volume level at this point. So your restore operation for an individual object would be that two step process that Pete described. Recover to an alternate location and them grab what you need.

Microsoft is working to add this but it is out on the roadmap and things are changing pretty dramatically with Windows through and up to W2K8.

Hope this helps,

Steve
