Save set order in NDMP backups.

Hello there,

We are performing backups using NDMP clients with Networker 7.5.1 over a windows 2003 network. According to EMC's solutions and documentation the order of the save sets per client is random. It seems that there is an algorithm that selects the best candidates (save sets) first. Is there a way to fix this? We would like to have a strict order for the save sets due to time and data priority constraints. Any help would be welcomed.

Thanks for your time.

I think the order is first in first out i.e. Server requests all save sets at the same time, it starts writing based on the sequence in which it gets data from the client/NAS and the no. of save sets written at a time depend on the parallelism set for the environment.

If you want a preffered sequence, you can create multiple clients(multiple resources for the same client) with save sets distributed over them and set their job preference which is defaulted at 500. You can set this in a way to give preference to your choice save set(client resource).
