how to assign in Networker 7.6 different schedule for gfs backup in a group ?

Question

I've created three schedules for gfs operation:

son:

from monday to thursday -- FULL

father:

friday -- FULL

granfather:

the last friday of month type FULL

Now I need to assign this schedule to a group that contain my clients to backup.

I see that it's possible to assign only one schedule in a group......is it correct?

Is it possible to have different schedules in a group?

You could probably do what you want using a Scheduled Task in Windows or a cron job in Unix. Just put the savegrp command that you want into the crontab to run whenever you want. Otherwise, create multiple groups with a different schedule assigned to each one which would be the most common way of doing it.

You can only select one schedule at a time. You can not assign more than one schedule to one group. What do you want to achieve with your gfs backup?

hi, many thanks for your answer, my problem is that Customer util now using nt backup that follow policy GFS(granfather father son) and now Customer have Legato Networker 7.6 and want to follow same plicy .

I've tried to use it and i've created three schedules about :

son backups:

from monday to thusnday incr backup with retention 7 days

Father backups:

all friday full backup and retention 4 weeks

GranFather backups:

last friday of ebery month , full backup and retain 1 year.

the problem is that all clients are in one groups because customer want to use the same retention for this client, but i've seen that only one schedule can be set in a group.

What do you suggest for follow this criteria that Customer want to use?

Can I suggest another one method to follow?

Customer can change also the method top backup , it's important to have similar retention fot this new environment.

The easiest way to achieve this is to build 3 groups with all the clients in it and change the browse and retention as well as the schedule for all the clients/groups.

1. group: weekdays

Schedule: weekly; monday to tuesday: incr; other days:skip

Browse, Retention policy: week

2. group: weekly

schedule: weekly; all days but friday: skip; friday: full;

Browse, Retention policy:month

3. group: monthly

schedule: weekly or monthly; alldays: skip; override: full first sat every month

Browse: month; Retention year

Unfortunately you only can use first,second, ... in overrides, so we use the first sat every month.

May be, that will work for you / your costumer.

You can use last in overrides. Just uncheck 'Show Schedule as Calendar' and then in Schedule properties make it Monthly calendar, in Action box type 'skip' 31 times and in Override box type 'full last saturday every month'

Now check 'Show Schedule as Calendar' option and you are ready to go.
