nsrsnmd.exe failed - no inventory - no mount
After upgrading to networker 8 we get the following error on windows event viewer and mount of tapes or inventory fails
Faulting application nsrsnmd.exe, version 8.0.0.0, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.2.3790.4937, fault address 0x000000000001b0d7.
Any ideas ?

Hi Samy,
You are right, NW8 DO NOT support server nor storage node with Windows 2003, however just important note, if it is an upgrade, ALWAYS need to upgrade storage nodes first and then server, as the devices (specially the AFTD and DD devices) will be changed, removing the RO devices.
Thank you.
Carlos.

Hi,
Are you talking about a NetWorker server or storage node?
Have you tried to install NW 8 on the new Windows 2008 (I guess you still keep same IP and hostname etc), and run mmrecov?
Thank you.
Carlos.

Hi Samy,
I'm bit confused. Could you please clarify a bit more about your environment?
Did you have both Server and SN in windows 2003 and you just upgrade both to Windows 2008 or only the storage node or only the server?
Have you tried the mmrecov on the server? But first you have to install/upgrade NW 8 in the storage node, otherwise you can lose the devices/volumes for storage node.
Thank you.
Carlos.

1. I had windows 2003 with networker 7.6.3 server (machine name hqsbackup001)
2. Upgrade networker server only (not NMC) on machine name hqsbackup001.
3. ERROR Faulting application nsrsnmd.exe, version 8.0.0.0, faulting module ntdll.dll, no mount tapes in drives
4. remove hard disk drives with OS from hqsbackup001
5. add new hard disk drives to hqsbackup001
6. install windows 2008 R2 (same name hqsbackup001)
7. install NetWorker 8 server
8. configure devices
9 test mount
10. ERROR Faulting application nsrsnmd.exe, version 8.0.0.0, faulting module ntdll.dll, no mount tapes in drives
(backup server hqsbackup001 is also storage node)
Thank you
Stavros

no same mm res index upgraded from 7.6.3.x to 8.0
no mmrecov YET
problem appears to PTL AND VTL not on AFTD (i have no DD)
same PTL AND VTL worked with 7.6.3.xx

Hi Stavros,
Are you starting with a new configuration? (new mm, new res new index)
Have you ran the mmrecov?
Do you have PTL or VTL/DD or AFTD?
Thank you.
Carlos.

Hi Stavros,
What is the configuration you have for the PTL/VTL and the devices?
Have you configured static number of nsrnmd's?
Can you please share the daemon.raw to take a look?
Thank you.
Carlos.

@Carlos,
Just saw your statement saying While soing upgradation in environment, SN whould be upgraded first and then Server, Is it true only for AFTD and DD or form physical storage nodes as well.

It doesn't matter - SN must be upgraded first. I guess the best approach is:
- nsr_shutdown on server
- nsr_shutdown on SNs
- upgrade SNs
- start processes on SNs
- upgrade server
- start server
