pick up exit status of backup in savepnpc postcmd?
Depending on whether a backup finishes successfully or not, we would like the script in the savepnpc postcmd to execute different paths.
Is there a way to determine the exit status of a backup in the postcmd?

Only if you run save job from the script or run mminfo from client to check latest backup set and its save sets flags.
