query regarding Exchange server and Storage Node

if an Exchange server with exchange module and networker client installed is connected to SAN
can this machine backup to SAN attached Storage Node ?
that is avoiding the bacup traffic of exchange to enter in to LAN

Hi,

Machine Exchange has HBA, and it is connected to SAN by this HBA.

If Storage Node is in SAN, too, the machine exchange can backup to SAN by Storage Node, because data will out by HBA belongs to client Exchange to HBA Storage Node.

If Storage Node is out SAN, and machine Exchange communicates with Storage Node by Ethernet, the backup will be by Ethernet and not by SAN, because the data will out to Storage Node by ethernet card belongs client Exchange to ethernet card belongs Storage Node.

I hope help you.

Assuming both storage node and Exchange server are on the SAN yes, but a more effective solution would be to have your Exchange server as a dedicated storage node which would backup directly to the jukebox and not place an additional load on the storage node.

Dedicated storage nodes can only back themselves up and cost a fraction of the license cost of a storage node license.

Thanks for the info
i totally agree that making the exchage server a DSN(dedicated Storage node) will backup itself up to the SAN connected juke
But
what if the exchange server as well as Storage node both have 2 interfaces
one Etherner and other SAN
now in this configuration
when savegrp knock at the 7937 and tells nsrexecd to run save
How will save send data to Storage Node
save has two path , Ethernet and SAN
which one will be followed ?

Hi,

If you have doubts about if your backups go across fibre or Lan, you can proof to disable ethernet card in both machines and launch backup. See the speed and compare.

For someone who has EMC employ mark you ask really interesting question. You control where your save goes via storage node field in client resource. If this is the local machine that it would SAN of course.
