what is barcode?
I'm newbie to networker and library.
Question:
could anybody tell me what is tape barcode? what information is recorded in the barcode? Will the information recorded in the barcode be changed? How Networker makes use of it?

NetWorker uses barcode in the very same way as any other backup product. Barcode is tape identified in form of sticker which is placed on tape. Backup application, including NetWorker, will use this identifier for inventory, quick library scan or media selection. Typical use case with NetWorker since day one is that volume label (something that NetWorker will do when initiating volume) is the same to tape label (barcode) - this is default behavior.

The other big advantage is on inventorying huge libraries as Hrovje mentioned correctly.
Imagine a library with hundreds of tapes. If there is no barcode, no backup SW will have a chance to recognize the tape unless it is actually loaded into a drive and the label has been read. As this could take hours, a library without bar code reader for more than 20 tapes does not make sense.

barcode is a kind of symbology which can instore much information and make business convenient.
