Dell PowerConnect 2824

I have a Dell PowerConnect 2824 24-port 10/100/1000 Gigabit Switch Switch for my household.  At seemingly random times, the network freezes and I get no internet access.  If I bypass the switch, I can get wireless internet from the cable modem.  It comes back after a while but also returns after I reset the switch.

Any suggestions?  Time to buy a new switch?  Which one?

I am running software version 1.0.0.45 and boot version 1.0.0.13 and Hardware version 00.00.02

Thanks.

Hi,

Is the switch in managed or unmanaged mode? You are at the newest firmware. Do all of the ports stop working or only certain ones?

HI, Thanks so much for your reply.

It is unmanaged mode.

All ports stop working.

Not much troubleshooting can be done in unmanaged mode, you can try switching to managed mode and see if any errors get logged.

Sorry.  I think I was wrong.  It is in managed mode.  But it has been reset ... would errors still be stored somewhere?

Thanks.

Check for dropped packets under Statistics/RMON.

Trying to update the firmware. Downloaded it onto my Mac and launched TFTP but get an error as shown in the image.. Bigger picture is I'm getting slow internet speed when I check with speedtest on a wired Mac -- slower than through the wifi router.  Not sure if it is the dell switch??

Hi,

You say you have a 2824 but the firmware file you are uploading is a 2724.
