Dell PowerConnect 5548 Switch and MD3200i SAN

Hi all,

Second post here..

My goal is to create a xenserver cluster using 1x PowerEdge C6220 with 4x nodes, 2x Powerconnect 5548 (switch A and B) and Dell PowerVault MD3200i SAN.

The PowerEgde C6220 that I have only have 2x RJ45 ports and 2x sfp+ ports.

The plan is to have failover by creating port channels where I have 1 port from the server connected to switch A and the second to switch B on an iSCSI VLAN.

Switch A and B will both have an iSCSI vlan so switch A is 192.168.100.1 and switch B is 192.168.101.1 subnet. So if 1 switch die, i'm still online.

The question that I have is this:

1. I am aware that I need to enable iSCSI on the 5548 but once this is done, do I still need to manually create the iSCSI vlan? Do I need to create routng for the VLAN? (192.168.100.1 and 192.168.101.1)

2. as all my rj45 will be use for the iSCSI connection, can I use the sfp+ port of the switch to provide internet access to the server? Or are the sfp+ reserver for stacking?

The plan is Switch A
VLAN1 - 172.18.1.1 - ipmi server management for the C6220 and firewal
VLAN2 - 192.168.100.1 - ISCSI conection
VLAN3 - 172.18.2.1 - Internet / outgoing connection

Switch B
VLAN1 - not available as only 1 ipmi port
VLAN2 - 192.168.101.1 - ISCSI conection
VLAN3 - 172.18.2.1 - Internet / outgoing connection

Can anyone please advise on the best network topology to use here?

VLAN1 and VLAN3 is connected directly to the firewall providing dhcp 172.18.2.1 - 14 and 172.18.1.1 - 14 on 2 dedicated port

Hi,

Yes you need to create the VLAN for iSCSi and the routing for it. You can use the SFP+ ports for the connection from the server.

@DELL-Josh Cr

Thank you very much for the reply.

I worked out how to create vlan in the web interface but not how to create the routing for it.
Could you please give me a quick example ?
I prefer the web because it is allnew to be but i'm ok with cli as i will learn a different way.

Do I create routine for each  iSCSI subnet inside the VLAN for iSCSi?

192.168.100.1
192.168.100.2
192.168.100.3
192.168.100.4
192.168.100.5

Thank you
