Dell S6000 with ONIE won't install OS9
All, I have a Dell S6000 that previously had Cumulus running on it. I've been trying to convert it back to OS9 but am unable to get it to install. I'm doing the Install via ONIE Install and it keeps saying "Image Compatibility: Failed". It also shows the product as "S6000", not "S6000-ON". Clearly it is an ON since ONIE is installed and it was running Cumulus.
i have since removed Cumulus from it thinking I needed to remove the partitions, so i did an ONIE Uninstall to get it read to put the OS9 image back on - that didn't work either.
I have tried the ONIE image of OS9 as well as the Non-ONIE image. non work. I'm attaching outputs of both when i try to install them.
ONIE image install output:
ONIE:/ # mkdir /mnt/usb
ONIE:/ # mount -t vfat /dev/sdb1 /mnt/usb
ONIE:/ # cd /mnt/usb
ONIE:/mnt/usb # ls
FTOS-SI-9.10.0.1.bin ONIE-FTOS-SI-ON-9.10.0.1.bin

NON ONIE Image Install output :

ONIE: Executing installer: FTOS-SI-9.14.2.12.bin
/installer: line 1: FORCE10: not found
/installer: line 2: syntax error: unexpected redirection

I'm assuming the issue is because the Product Name is not S6000-ON.
AFAIK, this was one of the first switches that had ONIE installed on it and there was a way to manually change the model number/product name of the switch so that ONIE would install.
Ant any rate, any help would be appreciated.
I'm just trying to put regular OS9 back on it so it's useable with another S6000 I have.

XeoniX2008,
I am not certain what is causing the issue you're describing, possibly something in the persistent settings. What I would suggest trying is to make sure the switch is up to date on firmware, then restore the switch to factory defaults and then reattempt the ONIE install.
Let me know how it goes.

So I have installed all the updated firmware for the Switch, the Updated ONIE code as well as the bootcode/bios for the switch.
I'm unable to do the factory reset as that exists only in FTOS and i don't have FTOS on the switch.
All I have is ONIE and nothing else.

Thank you for those details. Would you do me a favor and private message me the svc tag for the switch?

Hi, as I know that S6000 switch does not support ONIE because it is not an ON switch. The S6000 runs Dell's own OS. You may be getting an error because of this. Please check below links which hope those help.
