How to analyse Dropped Package in Powerconnect 3348 and 5324
Dear All,
Let me put my first question.
I use powerconnect 3348 and 5324 switch in my network. Physical configuration is simple.
for example, I have 2 power connect 3348 switch and one 5324 switch in same lan segment.
two cable from 3348 G1 Port is plugged into gigabit ports (g1 and g2) of 5234 switch.
What i want to know is I found dropped package in my 3348 switch ports that are connected to individual computers (i didn't extend lan segment with hub. only one computer for one port).
So, I want to know what package is multicast, what is unicast, what is unknown unicast (may be).
broadcast. So, i can analyse why switch dropped this package for what reason.
This is because I found the dropped package but no errors when i check with the sh rmon statistics ethernet 1/e1 command. No errors means that CRC /FCS is ok and ethernet MTU is ok.
I didn't use VLAN trunking. just all ports are access port. (so no need to add header to make frame size bigger and no additional processing is needed in both switches).
Here is one 3348 switch dropped packets. this switch is connected to port no 3of 5324 switch
port 4 dropped 3
port 5 dropped 1
port 9 drop 2
port G1 drop 176 (port connected to port 3 of 5324 switch
Here is 5324 switch dropped packets for port no 3
port 3 drop 44 packets (port 3 is connected to port G1 of switch 3348)
Both port are access ports only.
The second question is I configured all switch with IP address (same subnet) and use default Vlan (vlan1).
when I ping to one device connected to 5324 switch from one device connected to one of 3348 switch. 3 packets loss in 4 packets sometimes and all packet loss in sometimes. At the same time, i can ping this device from 5324 switch and no losses.
The configuration files is simple because it is used default configuration and used for new network and test run period to measure performance. After that may be I will change.
All switches are updated with current release firmware provided by dell.
Let me know any ideas or suggestion from Dell and other friends.
Thank,
byin
