How to identify packet loss and connectivity issue
Hi Support,
I'm having packet loss and connectivity issue on my current network. I have 2 core switch (dell power connect 6224 - stack) and all the access switch (power connect 6248) is connected to the core as backbone and running 19 Vlan segment, All connection are connected using 10G Fibre (SFP+). I have tested on the switches, there is no faulty on the device.
Is the network design ok?

Hi,
There is nothing that stands out as an issue with the setup. Are you using spanning-tree? There seem to be plenty of places for loops to occur. Is the packet loss on any specific switch or randomly on all of them?

Hi,
How do i check whether is running on spanning tree? if not what is the cause? The packet loss always on core 1 (172.16.0.50). Sometimes device show offline but i still able to access using another set of IP which is (10.8.x.x)

What firmware version is that switch on? Try show spanning-tree active and see which ports are being blocked.

Hi,
All switches firmware is 3.3.3.3. Below is the STP Port Table
Port 25 1/xg3, STP=enable, STP Root Guard=disable, State=Discarding, Role=Alternate
What does it mean state is discarding? Being block?

Discarding is when spanning-tree is blocking because there is a loop. Which port is 172.16.0.50 connected to?

There is a switch (172.16.0.55) connect to 172.16.0.50 port 25 1/xg3

It looks like it is in forwarding mode like it should be. Does the issue occur all of the time or just randomly?

Hi,
We are having this issue when many users are connecting to network and we have use spiceworks for monitoring, it always show "The Network is consistently overloaded"

If you do show process cpu and show memory cpu when the issue is occurring what does it show? It is possible that your traffic is overloading what the switch is capable of transmitting.

Hi can i see on 172.16.0.50, STP port table, 26 1/xg4 show state is forwarding and role is root, and connect to level 2 (172.16.0.54) switch. i wondering why set the role as Root, any ideas?

The root port is the port with the shortest path to the root switch for STP.
