MDI or MDIX ?

Question

hi I have a ADSL router connected via straight-through patch cable to the managed switch PowerConnect 3324. Both Ethernet devices (router & switch) are hard coded to 100FD. At the switch I cannot use AUTO for MDI/MDIX. AUTO MDI/MDIX I can use only by NIC AUTO-NEGOTIATION. Should I enable MDI or MDIX on the switch in my case ? Do I understand correctly ? When using a crossover cable, both sides of the link would need to have the same MDI/MDIX settings. Either both MDI or both MDIX.   When using a straight-through cable, one side would need to use MDI and the other would need to use MDIX.
